Getting a divorce is a very stressful time in a person’s life.  It is a bit like losing a person to death but still having them around, which can be in itself quite distressing, and of course there is the hurt and/or betrayal which one side feels.

When I went through this many years ago I must admit I didn’t do well.  I was very angry and this anger actually was not good for me or my family and I came to realize I was really only hurting myself by venting those feelings.   This stress and anger must have sent my anxiety levels through the roof.

Fear is the most typical of all panic attack symptoms. This is often characterized by the strong desire to flee. You cant predict a panic attack but a trigger is usually responsible for the onset of an attack. Stress, depression, phobias, drugs or a traumatic experience can be triggers.

If you experience immobilizing fear, lack of concentration, depression or phobias then they could lead eventually to a panic attack. Read the rest of this entry »

Many more people are now suffering from stress-induced anxiety disorders at different levels.  Some form of relaxation or stress control measures should be taken by anyone who wants to stay sane in these days.

There would not be a day go by when we would not be confronted by at least one form of stressor or another.  From the moment we wake up to the time we retire for the night we can come up with a long list of things that annoyed or displeased us:  the alarm clock not going off, kids dilly-dallying and nearly missing the school bus, rush-hour traffic causing you to be late for work, the washing machine breaking down  – and you are only just starting out your day.

Driving to work or anywhere for that matter during peak periods can be a very stressful experience.  We seem to get all the red lights or they aren’t working, banked up traffic and construction zones.  There is also the noise and pollution associated with driving in the city.  The kids can get bored and restless and you arrive at your destination stressed.

smiley_cryingA good way of relieving stress is to have a good cry.  You are not weak if you cry but naturally getting rid of feelings that might be damaging your health.

Society seems to dictate when we are allowed to cry such as funerals and weddings and women are judged less than men for crying.  Other cultures are more relaxed about crying, for instance, Italians have no such reservation about crying in public.

Beach and Sunset84Self hypnosis is a technique you can use to help you overcome phobias, bad habits and stress.  Self hypnosis techniques are quick and easy to learn and when you do your own hypnosis you are in full control and that is something that you don’t feel you possess when you are stressed, anxious or panicky.

Using auto suggestions is a good start.  Use positive suggestions that are easy to remember. Visualize yourself actually doing or succeeding at this suggestion you are giving yourself.  Don’t be negative and keep them short and to the point as this helps to reinforce them in your mind.

A large glass of red wine contains about three...

The way we react to bad stress is different for each person.  I know when I’m stressed, I race around, drink lots of coffee and talk at a hundred miles an hour.  My best friend though just retreats and finds comfort in food and a good red wine. You can see that we both handle stress very differently.

I probably fall into what is called a hyper personality when I’m stressed and I have found aromatherapy and Bach Flower Remedies work well for me.  When I realize my bad stress levels going up I then also watch what I am eating and cut down on the caffeine. I also slow my mind down with meditation.

I suffer from anxiety attacks!  I don’t want to make that sound like a final statement because most of the time I don’t suffer from anxiety attacks and panic.  It is only when I have let myself get too stressed that I may have them now.

Drinking too much coffee, not getting enough sleep or eating properly or a combination of these can also contribute to my having an anxiety attack. These are my triggers and I have learned to recognize what they are and also how to eliminate or reduce the affects they have on my mental health.

We all need to eat, but the problem starts when you eat for comfort when you are anxious or stressed.  Stress and anxiety can be a bad aspect of your life if you react to it by overeating.  This can lead to weight gain and health problems as well. I was one who was a comfort eater and when things went wrong for me I would take pleasure in my food.

Finding out what your stressors are is very important so you are aware of why you are overeating.  Sometimes we can’t change the stressors eg a bereavement but we can control how we react to it.  We often hope that the comfort we get will make the underlying problem go away but unfortunately it just makes it worse or creates other problems.

Stress can be a major factor in living an unhealthy life for women in particular.  Many women are finding it difficult due to feelings of pressure and stress in their everyday lives.  Stress relief for women can be very easy to achieve, especially when you know how.  Keeping your stress to a minimum is now one of the greatest tasks most women need to learn.

One good strategy is to learn to prioritize.  No one can do everything at once and you also have to have  some allotted time for leisure and relaxation as well as your work.  I am a person of lists so I follow my list and each day I feel I have achieved some things, if not all, and feel less stressed in the process.
