This is a selection from a  poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

For me this poem is all about growing older, getting through the dark days, knowing sunny days are coming and to accept that our life is not perfect.  Being ‘blue’ is ok if you give it a time frame to experience it, then move on.

Overcoming depression

Overcoming depression

My life is cold and dark and dreary
It rains and the wind is never weary
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past
And youth’s fond hopes fall thick in the blast
And my life is dark and dreary

Be still, sad heart and cease repining
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining
Thy fate is the common fate of all
Into each life some rain must fall
Some days must be dark and dreary

In healing anxiety you must remember that a magic cure or pill does not exist. This is not to say that healing rates are low. Both patients and medical professionals have taken healing anxiety to high, encouraging success rates often using a natural anxiety remedy.

It is important to remember that all your professional help should have one goal: to establish the belief that you have the power to control your body as well as your life.

Methods that you can do yourself include stress management techniques such as meditation, getting sufficient exercise or other physical activity and proper eating properly. I also find that taking a good vitamin B complex and evening primrose oil has helped me as well. Read the rest of this entry »

happyNow the “Don’t worry,  be happy” song had a simple message but can this simple philosophy be really achieved?  Worry is something you choose to do and you do have some control over it. You can accept it, limit it or reject it, it is your choice.

Life is full of stresses but by adapting ourselves to be resilient and positive is a way we can live our life being happy.  How we react to stress and problems in our lives will determine the outcome.  Being happy within ourselves and knowing how to increase it is a way to make our lives more fulfilled and also more healthy.  You have a choice so don’t worry, be happy as the song says.

We all need to eat but the problem starts when you comfort eat when you are anxious.  Stress and anxiety can be a bad aspect of your life if you react to it by overeating.  This can lead to weight gain and health problems as well.  I was one who was a comfort eater and when things went wrong for me I would take pleasure in my food.

Finding out what your stressors are is very important so you are aware of why you are overeating.  Sometimes we can’t change the stressors eg a bereavement, but we can control how we react to it.  We often hope that the comfort we get will make the underlying problem go away but unfortunately it just makes it worse or creates other problems.

I suffer from social anxiety.  Social anxiety Disorder is a recognized psychiatric condition and is common in both sexes and which causes distress and impaired ability to function in social situations in a person’s daily life. This is my personal story but I must say that I manage my anxiety well now, and keep my stress levels down as much as possible.  I won’t say that I am ‘cured’ but I am learning again to enjoy the things I once feared.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder is commonly known as GAD and it affects many millions of people in the United States and around the world.  More women than men have this anxiety disorder and the age group it affects is broad, ranging from childhood to middle age, so it really can affect anyone at any age.

Driving to work or anywhere for that matter during peak periods can be a very stressful experience.  We seem to get all the red lights or they aren’t working, banked up traffic and construction zones.  There is also the noise and pollution associated with driving in the city.  The kids can get bored and restless and you arrive at your destination stressed.

Listen to the video below as it explains how I felt when having a panic attack but I didn’t know what to do then.   Eating in restaurants always made me anxious and this is where my panic attacks started. When I looked at this video I identified immediately with how I felt when I first suffered from panic attacks.

What it didn’t talk about though was what I call ‘the wave’ which comes with panic attacks. I used to dread ‘the wave’  but now when I feel some tingling in my fingers or scalp I can stop ‘the wave’ from coming on and taking me into a full blown panic attack.  I realize then that my anxiety is high and I work at getting it down.  Please watch the video if you do experience panic.

It’s not easy to overcome panic attacks but it can be done and I have done it myself. Don’t be fooled though into thinking its easy or that you can read a book or watch some videos and it will all go away. That doesn’t happen. It takes time and you must apply what you learn.    I really liked this video and I hope you did too.

I recommend PANIC AWAY for help with overcoming panic.  Just read their testimonials to see the relief they have given to so many people.
