Getting a divorce is a very stressful time in a person’s life. It is a bit like losing a person to death but still having them around, which can be in itself quite distressing, and of course there is the hurt and/or betrayal which one side feels.
When I went through this many years ago I must admit I didn’t do well. I was very angry and this anger actually was not good for me or my family and I came to realize I was really only hurting myself by venting those feelings. This stress and anger must have sent my anxiety levels through the roof.

Many of us worry about our ability meet a loan or some other debt repayment and this causes debt stress. It has become so easy for us to pay for what we want with credit cards whereas in the past we may have saved for it.
Negative stress from money worries is blamed for all sorts of physical ailments such as hypertension, insomnia, obesity and hives to mention just a few.

The way we react to bad stress is different for each person. I know when I’m stressed, I race around, drink lots of coffee and talk at a hundred miles an hour. My best friend though just retreats and finds comfort in food and a good red wine. You can see that we both handle stress very differently.
I probably fall into what is called a hyper personality when I’m stressed and I have found aromatherapy and Bach Flower Remedies
work well for me. When I realize my bad stress levels going up I then also watch what I am eating and cut down on the caffeine. I also slow my mind down with meditation.

We all need to eat, but the problem starts when you eat for comfort when you are anxious or stressed. Stress and anxiety can be a bad aspect of your life if you react to it by overeating. This can lead to weight gain and health problems as well. I was one who was a comfort eater and when things went wrong for me I would take pleasure in my food.
Finding out what your stressors are is very important so you are aware of why you are overeating. Sometimes we can’t change the stressors eg a bereavement but we can control how we react to it. We often hope that the comfort we get will make the underlying problem go away but unfortunately it just makes it worse or creates other problems.
